The disposable camera app for weddings, shot from inside the party.

A wedding photographer cannot stand at ninety tables at once. Yours covers the vows, the formals and the first dance, and then goes home. Crowdroll covers everything else, from inside the party, by the people who were in it.

Ninety guests, ninety angles your photographer was never standing at.

The photographer gets the vows and the formals. What they miss is table eight at 11pm, the kids under the dessert table, and your uncle dancing. Everyone already has a camera out, and this puts all of it on one roll instead of thirty phones nobody will ever collect from.

How it works

  1. Put a card on every table

You create the event in the week before and print the table cards. Ninety guests then need no instruction beyond the one already sitting in front of them.

  2. Twenty-five shots each, no screen

They scan and they are shooting seconds later. Nothing can be previewed, retaken or quietly deleted, so nobody spends your reception reviewing photographs of it.

  3. It develops over breakfast

The roll opens the morning after, all at once: every hour your photographer had already gone home for, arriving while you are still in the hotel.

The hours your photographer is not there

Most wedding photography contracts end somewhere around eleven. The ceremony and the portraits are handled, and they are the photographs you will frame. But the ones people ask for years later tend to be from later on and lower down: the table that would not go home, the flower girl asleep in a chair, your father-in-law attempting something on the dance floor. Those hours are covered by whoever happened to have a phone out, which is everybody, and then they are lost in thirty separate camera rolls.

Why the photos come out honest

Nobody sees a shot after taking it. There is no preview, no retake and no quiet deletion of the unflattering one, which is the entire reason the roll looks like your wedding rather than like thirty people curating themselves. It also stops the other thing: guests standing around reviewing photos instead of being at the party. They take the shot and put the phone down, because there is nothing to look at.

What it costs

Most weddings land between sixty and a hundred and fifty guests. Crowdroll is free for events of up to five guests, and you are not counted as one of them. Above that you pay once for the event rather than by subscription — every size, add-on and pack is set out on the pricing page, with a builder that adds your own night up. There is nothing to cancel afterwards.

If you want more than the roll

The wedding pack

€39.99

Named for the obvious event, and the three things in it are the three a wedding asks for afterwards rather than on the night: the frame with your names on it, a number that answers while you are getting married and cannot be the person answering it, and the photographs still there in ten years when this has quietly become the only copy anybody kept.

  • Polaroid frame on save
  • Someone on the end of a phone
  • Keep them forever

€14.98 less than buying those parts separately

Added when you create the event, and it applies to that event only.

Questions about weddings

When do we see the wedding photos?
Whenever you set it to. Most couples pick the morning after, so the roll lands over breakfast and the whole thing arrives at once instead of trickling in all night. You can also set it to develop later that evening, or a week out if you would rather have something to look forward to.
Do guests need to download an app at the wedding?
Yes. They scan the code on the table, land on the App Store, and are shooting about four seconds after it installs. There is no account to make, no email to give and nothing to pay. iPhone for now.
Can we take something out of the finished roll?
Yes. Guests cannot delete their own shots, which is the point, but the host can remove anything from the developed roll afterwards. That is the right way round: it keeps the honesty during the night and leaves you in control of what is kept.
