The disposable camera app for christenings, with nothing to join.
Half the room will never see a shared album. They are not on social media, they will not join a group, and they are not going to install something with a sign-up form. They are, however, all photographing the same child.
The relatives who never post anything still take pictures.
Half the room is not on social media and will never see a shared album, but all of them own a phone and all of them are taking photos of the same child. Scanning a card on the table is the only step they have to manage.
- No account for guests
- Works on any phone
- Kept forever
25 shots each · develops that evening
How it works
One card, on the table
A christening spans four generations, so there is exactly one instruction and it is already printed: scan this. No account, no group, no password to lose.
Twenty-five shots each
Thirty to eighty people over an afternoon, and not one of them needs asking. They were all going to photograph the same child anyway.
It opens that evening
The roll develops the same day, while everyone is still together or only just home, and every photograph in it downloads at full quality.
One step, and it is scanning a card
The reason family photographs never get collected is not that people are unwilling, it is that every method has a second step: make an account, join a group, remember a password, find the link again next week. Here there is one step and it happens at the table. A guest scans, shoots, and never has to return to anything.
Worth keeping properly
A christening roll is one of the ones people come back to in ten years, which is a different requirement from a party. Everything downloads at full quality into your own camera roll, so the copy that matters is yours rather than ours, and there is a keep-forever add-on for the version that stays on the roll itself.
What it costs
Usually thirty to eighty people for an afternoon. Crowdroll is free for events of up to five guests, and you are not counted as one of them. Above that you pay once for the event rather than by subscription — every size, add-on and pack is set out on the pricing page, with a builder that adds your own night up. There is nothing to cancel afterwards.
If you want more than the roll
The wedding pack
€39.99
It is called the wedding pack, and that is the only part of it that does not fit a christening. Inside it are the frame with the names on it, a number that answers, and the photographs kept for good rather than for a year, which is closer to what a family day wants than to what a wedding does. This is the occasion where somebody prints one for a grandparent.
- Polaroid frame on save
- Someone on the end of a phone
- Keep them forever
€14.98 less than buying those parts separately
Added when you create the event, and it applies to that event only.
Questions about christenings and family days
- Will older relatives manage it?
- The whole interaction is: point the camera at a card, tap the thing that appears, take photographs. There is no account, no password and no settings. The app looks like a camera because that is all it is for a guest.
- Can I take a photo out before sharing it?
- Yes. The host can remove anything from the developed roll. Guests cannot delete their own shots during the event, which is what keeps the roll honest, but the finished thing is yours to edit.
- How long do we keep the photos?
- A paid event stays up for as long as the event exists, until you delete it or delete your account. A free event is cleared ninety days after the date, unless it buys the keep-forever add-on. Either way everything downloads at full quality into your own camera roll, so the copy that matters is on your phone rather than on our servers.
Also worth a roll
Start a roll
The grandparents took photographs today and they will never post them anywhere. A code on the table is how you end up with those ones.
